Let me introduce myself as I share a little about my passion and areas of expertise.

I have always been a strong believer in, and advocate for, bringing together solid research, policy and practice across my key areas of expertise, including, education, reform processes, technology and wellbeing, to help bring about positive change for the individual and more widely for the community and school/organisation. When working on a project or task, I draw on over 35 years of personal experience in the education sector across primary/elementary and tertiary settings and draw on the skills and learnings I have continued to develop from the varied roles I have held. These roles include classroom, key and specialist teacher roles, senior lecturer (for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in research methods and youth wellbeing), PhD supervisor, researcher and school board member. I also have been fortunate to work with multidisciplinary teams, across a range of fields including social marketing, legal, social policy and psychology, which has further broadened my perspectives and learnings.

I am, what is referred to in academic circles, a change analyst, and mixed method researcher - a mixed method researcher means I will use the approach and research method that best aligns with the task/project/research question. This method/approach can be quantitative (think numbers) or qualitative (think words, images) or a mix of the two- I always ask myself what is the best methodology and associated data collection method that will generate the data needed to inform a solution or way forward. The methods I use include participatory co-design, interview and focus groups, scale development, survey design and statistical analysis including path-modelling. I also draw on a variety of change, and social emotional learning and development frameworks to underpin my work, and have applied associated frameworks across a number of research projects I have been involved with. My expertise covers change process analysis, program evaluations, website analysis/evaluations, case studies and cross-sectional research designs.

Impact is an important consideration for CMT Accessible Research, and making a positive difference in some way is something I often reflect on - I often ask myself, who am I impacting? How am I making an impact? and how can I facilitate a positive and sustainable impact, and help others to do the same? As a chief investigator on several significant research projects commissioned by various stakeholders including the Australian Government and not-for-profits, and as an invited subject matter expert on youth wellbeing and bullying and research processes, it has been very rewarding and humbling to see my research informing policy, legislation and school and organisational practices, and approaches to learning and teaching.

I also believe that impact occurs through sharing findings and learnings with others. To this end, I have supervised numerous postgraduate and higher degree students, including PhD, EdD and Masters students, and have published and presented widely at local, national and international conferences and in highly regarded journals, in my key areas of research, including online research methods/design, change and leadership management processes, technology initiatives in education settings, youth safety and wellbeing online, bullying and social connectedness.

My roles and experiences have enabled me to assemble a well stocked toolkit with strategies and tools that can be tailored and implemented to support your learning or teaching or to help you address education or change-related challenges or opportunities. So please don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss your needs and pricing options.
